Frequently Asked Questions
What is a momo?
Momo is a savoury dish from the himalayan communities. Our momo is a variety of steamed dumpling from Nepal made from Wheat dough and fillings like minced meat, vegetables, spices and herbs.
Momo is typically served with ‘Achar’ (tomato chutney) or with ‘jhol’ (an acidic soup) made with sesame seeds and peanuts.
How do I cook momos?
Momo is usually steamed. In order to steam our frozen momos, you let water cook at the bottom section of your steamer and separately arrange the frozen momos (they don’t need to thaw!) in the top layer. Once the water boils, you add the top layer of your steamer to the bottom layer with boiling water and let the momos cook for 15 minutes.
If you have several top layers, it would be better to exchange the layers once after the first 10 minutes and let the momos steam for another 10 minutes.
Are there other ways to eat momos?
Yes! while people eat momos for lunch or dinner in Nepal, you can also serve few pieces of momos as appetiser.
The leftover momos can be fried with a tiny bit of oil in the pan the next day.
The leftover momos can also be deep fried, then, you are in for a completely different taste.
In winter, you can add momos (frozen or steamed) in any soup of your choosing.
Is it momo or momos?
In Nepal, ‘momo’ is used for both the singular and the plural form.
In Western countries, it is accepted to use ‘momos’ for more than one piece of momo. We have opted to use momos for the plural form in order to avoid confusion.
How do I order/pay for momos?
You can order through our ‘contact’ form or send us a message through Instagram. We accept online payment through bank transfer or cash.
The order must be placed few days in advance so that we can arrange our stock.
We sell per portion of 10 pieces of momos equivalent to a serving for one person. A minimum order of 3 portions are required for delivery within Leuven and area. We can deliver to other cities for larger orders (this can be discussed between us).
How do I store momos?
You must keep the momos in the freezer until the moment when you arrange them on your steamer to cook.
Our frozen momos can last up to 3 months if properly stored in the provided airtight freezer bag. Frozen for longer may affect taste and quality.
